Is my gift tax-deductible? Yes, your gift is 100 percent tax-deductible as allowed by law. Please consult with your tax adviser for details. Once we receive your gift, you will receive a receipt verifying that your gift has been deposited into the designation you have specified.
Where does my money go? Wherever you choose. You may designate your gifts to an individual school or college, Temple Athletics, Temple University Libraries or unrestricted university use. You also may specify a particular program, department, major or center that is meaningful to you.
On the drop-down menus on our secure giving site, you will find a variety of designations across the university and within each school and college, or you may choose to write in another designation in the “Other” box.
Can I make a gift in honor or in memory of a loved one? Making a charitable contribution in another individual’s name is an excellent way to pay tribute to that person’s life and accomplishments. You may make a gift in honor or in memory of a special person in your life through our secure giving site. If you choose, Temple will send a notice of your gift to that individual or their family. When you have completed your donation, you will receive an e-mail with further instructions on sending a gift acknowledgment letter.

Types of Gifts:
What are Annual Campaigns? Each school and college at Temple University depends on yearly gifts to its annual fund. These vital, unrestricted dollars provide us with the financial flexibility necessary to expand our commitments to excellence in education and research. Deans use these important resources to support teaching, research and scholarship priorities at their schools and colleges.
In order for your gift to count for this year, the university must receive your support by June 30, the end of our fiscal year.
If you have questions about Annual Campaigns or would like more information on where your annual gift goes, please contact Nicole Steiner at 215-926-2543 or nicole.steiner@temple.edu.
What is endowment, and how does it work? Endowment is the permanent capital of a university. Endowment refers to assets that are invested in perpetuity, unlike expendable funds, which are typically used for immediate needs. While the endowment principal remains intact, annually a portion of the dividend income is made available to the university. By building the endowment, Temple has a greater ability to pay for its operating expenses and added financial stability. A larger endowment provides the university with greater flexibility in launching new projects or initiatives as well as in providing greater support to faculty and students.
A common misconception about a university’s endowment is that it is one “pot” of money with which the university can do what it wishes. Endowments are composed of many separate funds, which are managed as a pool of assets. Donors set stipulations for funds and for what purpose the income may be spent.
If you are interested in setting up an endowment to establish a scholarship, to fund a particular program or center or to support any area of the university meaningful to you, please contact Jeffrey Miller at 215-926-2546 or jeffrey.miller@temple.edu.
What is planned giving? Through gift annuities, trusts and estate arrangements, planned giving strikes a balance between addressing your financial needs and enabling you to leave a powerful legacy at Temple University. Planned giving options often allow you to receive a secure income while benefiting the university as well. Planned giving also includes leaving a legacy at Temple through your will or bequest. For more information on planned giving, visit plannedgiving.temple.edu or contact Philip O’Connell at 215-926-2545 or oconnell@temple.edu.
Making an Impact
Why does Temple need my support? Tuition and state funds alone do not cover the cost of higher education. In fact, only a portion of the money required to educate Temple students is covered by these sources. The difference is made up by private gifts from dedicated alumni and friends like you.
Does my gift make a difference? Absolutely! Your gift, whatever the size, is a vote of confidence in Temple and encourages others to give. Every gift enables Temple to do even more for our students. Your participation helps make outstanding programs and services available to current students. Higher participation rates also enhance the university's reputation and the value of the degrees it confers. When you invest in Temple, you make a statement to publications such as U.S.News & World Report, as well as corporations and foundations, that Temple is a high-caliber research institution worthy of their support.
