April 13-21
Waterways of Holland and Belgium

Beginning in Amsterdam, we will visit the famous Keukenhof Gardens, historic Deventer, The Hague and Delft and the lovely towns of Veere, Bruges and Antwerp. Our comfortable river ship MS Amadeus Diamond will cruise the rivers and canals that formed the historic arteries of the region. 

Faculty Lecturer: Jenny Rose Carey, director of Temple Ambler’s Landscape Arboretum and a frequent lecturer on garden history and design, will be our guide to the famous springtime gardens while local guides and experts will discuss the history, art and culture of the sites we visit.

May 19-27
Amalfi Coast

From our base in the lovely seaside town of Amalfi we will travel each day to visit the surrounding cities and historic sites, including Ravello, Positano and the cliff-top village of Sorrento, overlooking the Bay of Naples. We will step back in time at the ancient ruins of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum and take a scenic cruise to explore the Isle of Capri.

Faculty Lecturer: Therese Dolan, professor of art history at Temple’s Tyler School of Art, will discuss the art, architecture and culture of the sites we visit.

June 21-July1
Greek Isles
 
Beginning in Athens, where we will explore both the ancient and modern sites of this cosmopolitan city, our journey will then take us to the islands of Crete and Santorini. On mountainous Crete, we will explore the archeological treasures, including the remnants of the Minoan civilization. We will cruise from Heraklion to Santorini, a volcanic archipelago that may have been the origin of the Atlantis myth. 

Faculty Lecturer: Robin Mitchell-Boyask, professor and chair of Temple's Department of Greek and Roman Classics, will discuss the history and culture of the ancient sites we visit.

September 24-October 10

Egypt and the Nile
 
Guided by an expert Egyptologist, we will visit Egypt’s treasures. We will begin in Cairo where we will explore the Pyramids of Giza, Sphinx, Old Cairo and more. We will cruise along Lake Nasser, where the country’s Nubian history unfolds, and explore Abu Simbel and other sites saved during construction of the Aswan Dam. A classic Nile voyage will take us from Aswan to Luxor. The trip will end in the illustrious Mediterranean port of Alexandria.

September 28-October 6
Provence
 
Our autumn program in Provence will be based in Aix-en-Provence, a lovely town of impressive architecture and sun-drenched promenades, surrounded by the colorful landscape made famous by such painters as Cezanne, Van Gogh, Matisse and Picasso. We will make daily excursions to sites including the villages of Les Luberon, the ruins at Arles, the hilltop town of Les Baux and the magnificent palace at Avignon.

Faculty Lecturer: Therese Dolan, professor of art history at Temple’s Tyler School of Art and an expert on the French impressionist painters, will be joined by local guides and scholars to discuss the art, architecture and culture of the region.

October 12-24
Treasures of South Africa
 
A land rich in biological diversity and fascinating culture, South Africa will be the focus of a journey that includes history, natural wonders and beautiful landscapes. We will begin with a tour of Cape Town, where we will ascend Table Mountain and cruise to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. We will visit Cape Point and the Kristenbosch Gardens and observe the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Then we will travel to Matjiesfontein and Kimberly aboard the luxurious, beautifully restored coaches of Rovos Rail. In Johannesburg, we will visit Soweto, where the seeds of South African freedom took root. We will conclude the trip with a game-viewing safari at world-renowned Thornybush Game Reserve.
