Living Abroad in Aix-En-Provence
March 3-April 1
Presenting an opportunity to immerse yourself in French language and culture, this extended stay in Southern France will include language classes, seminars on the culture and lifestyle, opportunities for guided and independent touring, and accommodations in your own modern apartment in the Old Town of Aix-en-Provence. Instructors are members of the eminent Ecole de Langue Français pour Etrangers. Aix-En-Provence, the traditional capital of Provence, is an elegant, beautifully preserved city, and its Old Town offers a lively collection of shops and restaurants along pedestrian streets. There will also be opportunities for cooking and painting classes, hiking, and optional excursions to the Riviera, local wineries, and Paris.

Waterways of Holland and Belgium
April 17-25
Aboard the state-of-the-art rivership MS Amadeus Diamond we will cruise the rivers and canals of Holland and Belgium, embarking in Antwerp, and visiting Bruges, Middelburg, the Zeeland Coast with the amazing Storm Surge Barriers that protects against the North Sea, Delft, The Hague, Venlo, the Keukenhof Gardens, and Amsterdam. In Venlo we will attend the Floriade, the Netherlands spectacular horticultural exhibition, which is held only once a decade.
Faculty Lecturer: Jenny Rose Carey, Director of Temple’s Ambler Arboretum, will discuss the landscape and garden culture of the Netherlands.

Rhone River Cruise
May 19-27
The Rhone River runs from Switzerland through some of France’s most beautiful countryside to the Mediterranean. Aboard the river cruiser MS Amadeus Symphony we cruise north through Provence, Cotes de Rhone, and Burgundy, visiting Avignon, Arles, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Viviers, Lyon, Perouges, Chateau de Cormatin and the Abbey of Tournus, and Beaune, disembarking in Lyon.
Faculty Lecturer: Tyler School of Art Professor Stephany Knopp is an acclaimed photographer and designer who will discuss the culture of Southern France.

Jewels of Antiquity Cruise: Venice to Cannes
May 25-June 9
This relaxed and luxurious cruise aboard the MV Aegean Odyssey will begin in Venice and visit Ravenna then cross the Adriatic and visit sites along the lovely Croatian coast and Corfu, then cross to Sicily and travel up the boot of Italy to Pompeii, Rome, Livorno and Florence to end in France’s Cote d’Azur, where we will visit Marseille, Avignon and Arles before docking in Cannes. This two-week cruise is a remarkable value.
Faculty Lecturer: Therese Dolan, Professor of art history at Temple’s Tyler School of Art and an expert on French and Italian art will discuss the art and architecture of the sites we visit. She will be joined by a team of shipboard lecturers who will discuss the classical history of the region.

Discover Switzerland
June 27–July 12, 2012
Our spring sojourn in the Alps combines the comfort and convenience of group travel with the pleasure of setting your own daily itinerary. A charming hotel in the lovely mountain town of Meiringen will be your base (with breakfast and dinner each day), and you will have the opportunity to participate in guided excursions or to strike out on your own with a first-class Swiss Rail Pass (included in your trip fee) that allows you free access to transportation across Switzerland. Explore the country by train, bus, boat or foot—it’s your choice. Nearby sites include Lucerne, Zermatt, Bern, Montreux, Grindelwald, Zurich, Interlaken and Thun.

Cruising Alaska’s Glaciers and Inside Passage
August 9-16
Aboard six-star MV Silver Shadow we will embark in Vancouver, British Columbia and cruise Alaska’s spectacular Inside Passage, calling at the historic towns of Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Sitka and ending in Whittier. During the long daylight hours of Alaska’s summer, we’ll have the chance to cruise close to the Sawyer and Hubbard glaciers and view whales, harbor seals, porpoises, sea otters, and eagles in their natural habitat.
Faculty Lecturer: James Hilty, Professor Emeritus of History at Temple and one of the country’s foremost political historians, will discuss the state’s colorful history. Onboard naturalists and guest speakers will further our understanding of the geology, wildlife, and indigenous culture of Alaska.

Tuscany
September 5-13
A perennial favorite with Temple alumni, our early autumn trip to the land of the ancient Etruscans will be based in the hilltop town of Cortona. From our comfortable hotel we will travel each day to explore the nearby cities and towns, including Assisi, Perugia, Montepulciano, Siena and Florence. Tuscany combines historical and artistic significance with stunning natural beauties, and autumn is a wonderful time to savor its harvest cuisine.

China, Tibet and the Yangtze River cruise
October 24–November 11, 2012
Our journey begins in 2000-year-old Beijing, China’s modern-day capital, where we will visit Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, and of course, the Great Wall. A tour highlight is an inside look at communal life along Beijing’s ancient alleyways or hutongs, fast disappearing as the city rushes to modernize. We will continue to Xian, site of the recently excavated terra-cotta army of nearly 8,000 life-size warriors, called the Eighth Wonder of the World. From there we will travel to Chengdu, where we will visit the Giant Panda Protection and Research Center. Then we will fly over the Himalayas to Llasa, Tibet’s holy city, where we will spend four days visiting temples and palaces and learning about its ancient culture. We will board a ship in Chongqing for a three-night cruise on the Yangtze, one of the world’s longest and busiest rivers. Our tour concludes in Shanghai, a dazzling city that epitomizes 21st-century China. Group size is limited to 24.

Sketches of Spain
October 25-November 4, 2012
Our autumn tour of Spain will feature stays in Madrid, San Sebastian, and Barcelona. We will enjoy these vibrant cities and journey out from them on excursions to Toledo, Bilbao (where we will visit the Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum), Zaragoza, and Pamplona.
Faculty Lecturer: Professor Gerald Silk, chair of Temple’s Art History Department, will discuss the art and architecture at many sites.

Mystical India with Ranthambore Tiger Preserve
November 15-December 2, 2012
This 18-day tour of Northern India begins in Delhi and visits Jaipur, Kalakho, Agra, Khajuraho, and Varanasi, with many side trips to sites of interest. We will also spend two nights at the Taj Sawai Madhopur Lodge in the Ranthambore National Park, one of India’s largest natural preserves and home to Bengal tigers. Group size is limited to 24.

Tanzania Migration Safari
November 7-18, 2012
Our safari will take a small group of travelers into the vast and
varied terrain of East Africa, visiting Arusha National Pauk, Tarangire
National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai
Gorge and the acacia-dotted savannas of the Serengeti National Park.
